Public institution «Nature Park Medvednica» has started functioning in the real sense of the word by the end of 2000. As an unprofitable organization it is financed from the state budged, through proper Ministry, as well as by nominating projects to economic and other entities in Croatia , and more recently, since we become candidate state for EU, from European Union funds, as well. Institution work is performed in accordance with annual programs issued by the Governing council, with the consent of Ministry, and since recently by previously acquired opinion from States institute for nature protection.

2005

2005 began with preparations for renovation of 500 Horvat's steps. It is planned to continue the works at Zrinski mine – expansion and renovation of remaining caved-in corridors, as well as numerous other projects, if we manage to secure necessary financial means.

2004

After three years of works Zrinski mine was opened in 2004. Project “Bicycle trails in Nature Park Medvednica” was realized, as well, by which 112 km of cycling trails were marked, and cycling map was published. First Info-center of “Nature Park Medvednica” in Golubovec near Gornja Stubica was opened, which purpose is to animate Zagorje side of the Park. Redesign of Park's Internet pages was completed.

2003

In 2003 10 employees are employed in the Institution. An accent is placed on performing works on Zrinski mine, and conducting inventory works. This year a project «Let the clean forest shine» was completed, which was financed by USAID. Through the project 10 large illegal landfills in the Park were cleaned and restored, and educational panels showing negative influence of waste on people's health and environment were placed. Educative program (PLT) was defined, which is since then actively implemented, accompanied with expert guidance in Veternica cave.

2002

In 2002 Institution has 9 employees. At the beginning of the year electric installations and lightning in Veternica cave were renovated, a booklet about the cave, in Croatian and English, was published, placement of wooden waste containers was completed, inventory of the Park has began (realization of scientific researches), as well as preparation works on Zrinski mine. The largest project in this year was construction of « Forest trail Bliznec», first educational trail for persons with special needs in Croatia . Public institution “Nature Park Medvednica” published a tourist map of the Park.

2001

In 2001 6 employees are employed in the Institution. Book of rules on internal order (one of management documents in protected area) was issued, Institution moved its office to a newly renovated forestry Bliznec, which became administrative headquarters of the Park, access trail to Veternica cave was renovated, and «Educational trail Miroslavec» (geology) was opened. During the same year we started placing wooden waste containers along Sljeme road.

1999 and 2000

Toward the end of 1999 began marking the borders of Nature Park Medvednica. In 2000 2 employees are employed in the Institution. A calendar was published.
