Park surrounding castle Stubi?ki Golubovec
This landscape park was founded in
the beginning of 19 th century inspired by English landscape
parks. Because of its preserved core it represents a rare example
of garden architecture from the beginning of founding landscape
parks in these parts.
In regard to floral content in the
park and park's forest we can distinguish three different basic
floral components which give it special characteristics and
significance. The main part, next to the castle, is a garden
distinguished by successfully grown domestic and foreign species
of trees. On a spacious meadow, that also belongs to this part,
old solitary domestic trees (oak, elm) stand out, as well as
picturesque groups of birch and spruce trees. The major part
of park's forest is occupied with a beautiful natural forest
of durmast oak and hornbeam (lat. Querceto-Carpinetum Croaticum Horv.),
which represents characteristic type of plain forests in Croatia
. Third integral part in the south part of park's forest is
a culture of eastern white pine (lat. Pinus strobus)
that grows and naturally rejuvenates very well which gives
it forestry significance.

The castle is built as a three part,
one floor object with equally formed facades, with characteristics
of late baroque classicism. Construction year is unknown, but
it is known that a simpler building existed here before year
1788 when Golubovec became the property of Regina Domjani?
married Dra?kovi?
(a descendent of this family is a famous Croatian poet Dragutin Domjani?). Other
mentioned owners were members of Millakoczy de Szomszedvar family, and for some
time half of the castle was owned by notorious Hungarian nobleman Franjo Tahy.
Zagreb 's Bishop Maksimilijan pl. Vrhovec (creator of Zagreb 's garden Maksimir),
bought the castle form Domjani? family. The Bishop took special care of the garden,
and for this purpose he signed a contract with the head gardener for educating
young gardeners that will continue with cultivation of the new garden. The only
preserved inventory are potassium furnaces from the end of 19 th century, and
two of them, which show ghosts protectors of night and day, located in the main
hall draw special attention.
Today in the castle we can find a part of Croatian Archive and cultural association "Kajkavijana",
and since 2004 Public Institution “Nature Park Medvednica” has opened info-center
with permanent display.
