Croatian Mountain Rescue Service
 
   



If accident happens in the Mountain or a caving object HGSS should be informed via:

•  via police, phone: 92
•  On the phone of the public information and alarm center 985 in all places with rescue service posts
•  On the all information posts of the rescue service HGSS (mostly mountaineering houses), that are marked  wit the name and sign of  HGSS (Mountain Rescue Service of the Croatian Mountaineer Union) tel/fax: 01/4824-142
•  For the  Medvednica and Zagrebačka county on the  mobile station GSS Zagreb: 091/5082-556

It is recommended that information about the accident is given by the witness since he will be able to give most accurate answers about the accident.



He should give following information:

•  his name, surname, address and phone
•  name, surname, address and phone number of the victim
•  what are the injuries
•  where is the victim (give as accurate as possible description of the place of the accident )
•  what measures have been taken already and who has been informed




MOUNTAIN RESCUE SERVICE OF THE CROATIAN MOUNTAINEERING UNION

Mountaineering rescue service of the Croatian mountaineering union (HGSS) is a voluntary service of the public character founded in 1950.  Its fundamental tasks is to provide help and first aid to the victims in inaccessible areas far away from traffic routes especially in mountains, and caving objects where expert knowledge and techniques have to be applied for the rescue of the victim. They also work on the prevention of the accidents, protection of the mountain plants and animals, natural rarities, mountain houses and shelters as well as other public objects in the mountains. 

Today Mountain rescue service has 200 members and novices in 13 stations located in: Požega, Varaždin, Zagreb , Samobor, Karlovac, Ogulin, Delnice, Tršće, Rijeka , Gospić, Zadar, Split and Makarska.

Mountain rescuers have at least 2 years of training which includes summer, winter and caving course, as well as successful completion of the final exam. They improve their knowledge and abilities during regular excises.
