In
2003 PI ”NPM” bought a study “Vascular flora of
Nature Park Medvednica” from Croatian botanic
society (dr. sc. Toni Nikolić) for the purpose of flora
inventory-making.
Distribution maps for 16 protected
species were given in the form of GIS layer (ArcView)
with accompanying attribute tables for localities.
In the study «Vascular flora
of Nature Park Medvednica», a total of 1346 taxa are
inventoried, (59 subspecies). Out of 20 protected taxa
in the area of «NP Medvednica», 2 are mentioned in the
literature with unknown localities, and for 2 it is doubtful
weather they exist in the area of the Park. Registered
are: 14 endemic, 58 cultivated, 29 naturalized and 93
species with different categories of endangerment, of
which 6 are critically endangered (CR), 15 endangered
(EN), 32 vulnerable (VU), 10 least concerning (LC), 28
low risk (NT) and 2 regionally extinct (RE).
For the purpose of future Management
plan, in 2004, PI “NPM” ordered distribution maps
of some endangered, endemic, and other important floral
taxa (invasive, allergic, thermopile, and some taxa significant
to endangered butterfly species) in the form of
GIS layer (ArcView) with accompanying attribute tables
for localities.

Based on distribution
report of selected vascular flora taxa in NPM, grouping
of data on localities of endangered and protected floral
species is performed in GIS, for the purpose of area
analysis for the need of Management plan and Regional
plan.
Butterflies are good indicators
of balance in nature and level of preservation of certain
area. Because of their specific biology they quickly respond
to changes in habitat, and are considered good indicators
for which they are often used for monitoring, that is systematic
observations of environment. For that reason PI ”NPM” ordered «Degree
of research of butterfly fauna in Nature Park Medvednica» from
Society for nature research in Croatia – Natura (Martina
Šašić, B.Sc.).
Based on the overview
of literature data, and collections in Croatian Natural
History Museum , zero state was determined: 107 species
of butterflies with a list of localities, of which
6 are protected and 12 endangered. Literature list
is given, and protection measures proposed, as well
as further activities that need to be taken.
White throated
dipper and wagtails in «Nature Park Medvednica» - CASA, Ornithological Institute
(Davor Ćiković, Dragan Radović, Krešimir Mikulić and Sanja
Barišić). The purpose of this research was to determine
the state of populations of white throated dipper, pied
and gray wagtail, to form preconditions for monitoring
their populations, and performing the most efficacious
protection and adapting Management plan of Nature Park
according to demands for protection of researched bird
populations on streams of Medvednica.

A total of 38 couples of pied
wagtail are distributed on 23 streams, 90 couples of
gray wagtail are distributed on 28 streams and 7 couples
of white throated dipper are distributed on 7 streams.
While both species of wagtail are abundant and widely
distributed on Medvednica, and less endangered by possible
changes in the ecosystem, white throated dipper population
is relatively small and isolated, and therefore very
vulnerable. Any type of change, such as change in water
quality, change in habitat structure caused by adaptation
of a stream (i.e. concreting stream bed), meliorations,
felling of trees, construction of roads, waste disposal,
etc. can drastically reduce population of white throated
dipper on Medvednica, and even endanger the survival
of this species in the Park.
