FIRST EU PROJECT “IMPROVING VISITOR CAPACITY FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF THE NATURE PARK MEDVEDNICA”
By signing the Grant Agreement in relation to Call for project proposals “Promoting sustainable use of natural heritage in national parks and nature parks”, within a framework of the Operational programme “Competitiveness and cohesion 2014.-2020.“, the project “Improving visitor capacity for the purpose of sustainable management of the Nature Park Medvednica” has officially started.
This is a project by the Public Institution “Nature Park Medvednica” to set up, by the end of the year 2019, a modern Medvedgrad Visitor Center and to improve visitor infrastructure, i.e. bike trails and signalization in the NP Medvednica, as well as to enrich educational and interpretative offer of the Park primarily by introducing educational programmes and improving the visitor management system in the NP Medvednica via Visitor Management in NP Medvednica Action Plan.
Total value of the project is 37.726.252,75 kunas, out of which 29.695.351,77 kunas are total eligible cost. The project is co-financed by the European Union with 24.233.502,00 kunas of grant from the European Regional Development Fund, and Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund with 2.921.296,22 kunas, while the rest of the eligible cost sum is covered by the Ministry of Environment and Energy from the State budget.
The general objective of the project is to establish a sustainable use of natural heritage of the Nature Park Medvednica by setting up the Medvedgrad Visitor Center and related amenities, with a goal to contribute to a sustainable socio-economic development on the local/regional level. A specific objective of the project is to protect, evaluate, promote and educate on the sustainable management of natural heritage destination, as well as to protect cultural and natural heritage in the Park area within the framework of the Medvedgrad Visitor Center action programme. The project is intended to reconstruct cultural heritage and equip the new Medvedgrad Visitor Center. It will provide visitor and outdoor amenities, create new capacities for sustainable natural heritage management and improve tourist offer, consequentially also opening up new jobs.
Project implementation period is from 1 March 2015 to 30 October 2019.
