Info centre Bliznec

The valley of the stream Bliznec used to be teeming with village life since time immemorial: the gurgling of water over many mill wheels, chatting of villagers loaded with heavy flour sacks, and bustle by the toll gate where the toll for entering Zagreb used to be collected. Now it is the site of one of the main entrances to the Nature Park Medvednica, with another kind of bustle around it: horse drawn carts have been replaced by cars, and many hikers, tourists and nature lovers pleasantly chat while starting their hike towards the Sljeme along the most frequently visited Medvednica trails.

Amid this bustle stands our Info-centre – a modern kiosk made of wood and glass in which the members of our staff readily await your questions: How far it is to the top? Which trail should we take? Have you got a map of Medvednica? In which mountain lodge can we eat the best bean soup? Is there a guide book to Medvednica? When is the beginning of the construction of the new cable car due? Are there dangerous animals on the mountain? Why do I have to lead my dog on the leash in the Nature Park? Which are the most interesting locations? And so on, without an end.

Just because of this we located our Info-centre here, to try to satisfy your curiosity as much as possible and present our Medvednica at its best!

At the kiosk you can buy our guide from the backpack – Decode Medvednica, which will take you on an exciting explorative adventure through the mountain and answer most of your questions. Here you can also buy the excursion map of Medvednica in order to find your way in the maze of Medvednica’s trails and paths. There are also our flyers and brochures available, featuring the main contents and attractions of Medvednica, as well as attractive souvenirs to remind you of your trip.

Across the kiosk you can examine the interesting Natura 2000 Labyrinth, presenting some of our representative plant and animal species and habitats, which make Medvednica an important if small segment of the European Natura puzzle – the largest network of protected areas in the world. At the Info-centre you can also get a flyer Natura 2000.

Beside the kiosk you can see the Geological Column, presenting the complex geological history of Medvednica and its various rocks chronologically built into the column – from the oldest (green schists) to the youngest (lithothamnium limestones).

Visitors who have no time or intention to go all the way to the top can take a walk along the Forest Trail Bliznec, starting from the Info-centre.

Opening hours of the info-centre: Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 2 pm.
