Public institution “Nature Park Medvednica” does not manage any of the listed catering and accommodation facilities. Due to seasonal changes in working hours, please contact the listed contact before the visit.

Mountain huts

Mountain hut “Glavica”

Located at the altitude of 420 m. It can be reached by lower access trail from Gornji Stenjevac or upper trail from Ponikve meadow (approximately 30 min by foot by both trails). It is a kind of monument of the people’s working movement because it was voluntarily built in 1936 by the workers of Zagreb, mostly members of the Mountaineering Association “Friends of Nature”, among which there were many members of the Resistance Movement during World War II.

Mountain hut “Grafičar”

In 1954, the Mountaineering Association “Grafičar” built a mountain hut in Rudarsko sedlo under the “Crveni križ Hut” on Malo Sljeme. It is located at the altitude of 864 m in a lee, surrounded by dense forest, near an opening suitable for playing and resting.

Mountain hut “Grofica”

The catering facility Grofica is situated along the Sljeme road, under the Činovnička meadow, near Dom Željezničara. It was created by private ideas and funding.

Mountain hut “Lipa”

Located at the altitude of 709 m. It was built by the Croatian Mountaineering Association “Lipa” Sesvete in 1967. Near the hut there is an 8 m tall iron pyramid erected in 1970, providing nice views of Zagorje and Posavina. Below the hut there is a chapel.

Mountain hut “Lojzekov izvor”

Located in an area called Podrtine at the altitude of 400 m. Near the hut there is a fresh water source arranged by Alojz Lažec from Podgora, so the source was named “Lojzekov izvor” after him. The hut was built in 1979 by the Mountaineering Association Stubičan.

Mountain hut “Kameni svati”

Located on a glade near the picturesque dolomite rocks which look like a stone wedding group. Also very near the mountain top (489 m). The hut was built by the Mountaineering Association Susegrad in 1982. Nearby there is a ruined building from 1938 (Kolarićeva House) which used to be a tavern.

Mountain hut “Mala Hunjka”

Located at the altitude of 875 m, accessible by a light 1-hour walk along the very ridge of the mountain. The opening in front of the hut features resting benches which provide a beautiful view of the Croatian Zagorje and Slovenian hills.

Mountain hut on Puntijarka – “Ivan Pačkovski”

The mountain hut “Ivan Pačkovski” is located at the altitude of 957 m. Its construction began in 1949. At first it was planned to be a student resting facility but the Mountaineering Association “Zagreb” finished its construction in 1954 and named it after their former president and initiator of the construction Ivan Pačkovski. The hut is located below the Puntijarka top, near on opening with plenty of benches for resting and recreation of visitors.

Mountain hut “Risnjak”

On a glade near Pongračeva lugarnica, at the altitude of 700 m, the Mountaineering Association “Risnjak” erected their hut in 1955. Around the hut there is a big opening ideal for resting, with a beautiful view of Zagreb. It is possible to reach this hut by a motor vehicle by taking a branch off the Sljeme road.

Mountain hut “Runolist”

The mountain hut “Runolist” is located at the altitude of 830 m. It was built in 1936 by the Mountaineering Association “Runolist”. It is situated on the south slopes of the central part of Medvednica, in the middle of a dense forest, not far from the Sljeme road. Near the hut (10 min by foot) there is a fresh water source called Šumarev grob. From there it is possible to reach the hut on Puntijarka by climbing a steep part of the mountain for about 10 minutes.

Mountain hut Vugrovec

This hut was built in 1954 by the workers of Zagreb Post. The mountaineers can come to Lipa across Medvednica and descend to Vugrovec or vice-versa, go from Vugrovec to Lipa or other places.

Crveni križ Hut (closed type)

Located on the top of Malo Sljeme (959 m). Built in 1932. Reconstructed in 1984 in accordance with the preliminary design by Andrija Mutnjaković, a Zagreb architect. It boasts 64 beds and a dining room for 100 people. It hosts primary school pupils’ field trips. In the hut yard there is the St. Francis’ Chapel, a bronze sculpture of a female bear and a fountain.

Tourist apartments Snježna kraljica are situated on the top of Sljeme, along the central mountain trail which leads to the Chapel of Sljeme Queen of Croats and Sljeme skiing trails. Hotel “Tomislavov dom”

The Tomislavov dom Hotel is located only 5 minutes from the cable car, at the altitude of 1006 m. It is a masterpiece of Croatian and world architecture of the 1930s, designed by architect Stjepan Planić. Built in 1935, conceptualized as a building with Y ground floor layout, it is the first such building in Croatia. Its shape is adjusted to the terrain, while its materials (Greenschist, wood) continue the course of its natural surroundings, adding new value to it. Planić’s Tomislavov dom is now perceived as a masterpiece of modern world architecture. It had been damaged in a fire several times in history, and nowadays it is a hotel.

Catering facilities

Sawmill “Bliznec”

Under the first sharp curve of the Sljeme road, where the steep ascent begins, this sawmill was built in 1898. It was situated near the city customs tollbooth and it served as a wheelbarrow factory. It was reconstructed several times, until it became completely ruined in the Second World War. “Šumarija Zagreb” reconstructed it in 1992 as a small museum and arranged its surrounding as a recreational site. It features a catering facility.

Restaurant “Jezero”

Located near the lower station of the skiing cable car Trosjed and an artificial lake that serves as a source of water for snowmaking. Accessible from Zagorje by the road from Gornja Bistra.

Restaurant “Šestinski Lagvić”

A restaurant with a long tradition, in the foot of Medvednica. The terrace has a beautiful view of Zagreb. The facility is decorated in an autochthonous Šestinski style with many traditional motives.

Catering facility “Kraljičin zdenac”

Recently built, near one of the strongest sources of Kraljevac stream. It derives its name from the legendary Crna kraljica (Black Queen), most probably Barbara Celjska, who according to a legend had an estate there. The location has cultural, historic, documentary, traditional and ambient value.

Lugareva kućica is a facility situated by the asphalt Sljeme road, near Kraljičin zdenac. It can be reached from Šestin by a long popular mountain trail 13. In Lugareva kuća you can find refreshments in a pleasant ambiance at reasonable prices.

The catering facility Vidikovac is located at the top of Medvednica (1033 m). It boasts a spacious sunny terrace with a view of Hrvatsko zagorje.

The catering facility Zlatni medvjed is located just below the TV tower on Sljeme. The facility’s interior is nicely decorated. Here you can get some rest and have something to eat and drink.

Gorščica – Kaptolska lugarnica

The meadow Gorščica is located at the altitude of 740 m. It is the largest mountain meadow to feature a forester’s house. Nearby is the top Sljemenski Oštrc with an elevation of 743 m. Gorščica is a crucial point in trails toward Hunjka and Sljeme, and mountain huts “Lipa” and “Vugrovec”. On the meadow there is an old capitular forester’s house Gorščica which had burned down in a fire.

Sljemenska kućica

At the top of Medvednica mountain there is a cute little cottage with green terrace in the shade of Medvednica forest.
