Interpretative walks

The goal of these programs is to adopt healthy habits, encourage spending time outdoors, learn the basics of hiking, adopt rules of conduct in the protected area, learn about Medvednica Nature Park and its fundamental phenomenon – forests and raise awareness of children and youth about the importance of nature.

Forest trail Bliznec and Bikčević trail

The program includes a walk along the most visited hiking trail in the Park – Bikčević trail to the rest area Njivice and along  forest trail Bliznec.

Bliznec forest trail is special because it is completely adapted for visitors with disabilities. Along with the interpretation of the contents of the educational boards, you will learn something about the colorful history of this part of Medvednica and its flora and fauna. Apart from being fully accessible to people in wheelchairs and families with small children, all texts are also written in Braille so that they can be read by visually impaired people.

How to get there: From Mihaljevac through Gračani to the main entrance of Medvednica Nature Park – Bliznec entrance (in the Bliznec parking lot it is possible to park a bus).

Educational trail Miroslavec

The program includes a walk from Šestinski lagvić along a winding path along the Kraljevec stream to the Queen’s Well (trail no. 13). The trail was built at the end of the 19th century by Count Miroslav Kulmer for the walks of his wife Elvira, so at that time the trail was named after her. In recent times, the name Miroslavec has become common, and along the way there are educational boards showing the complex geological history and structure of this mountain. A special feature of this walk is the possibility of getting to know rocks such as green and clay schist on the spot. Miroslavec educational trail ends at the Queen’s Well.

How to get there: From Mihaljevac, head towards Šestine, at the church of St. Mirko turn right towards Medvednica Nature Park and park near Šestinski Lagvić restaurant.

Educational trail Miroslavec

Ponikve – Jambrišak spring

The program includes a walk from the meadow Ponikve to Jambrišak spring and follows trail no. 8 back to Ponikve. Ponikve is actually a karst plateau and a very important habitat in the Medvednica Nature Park. Since it is a karst area whose waters flow into the Veternica cave, it is very important to develop awareness of acceptable behavior in nature. Along the way, we will visit the spring “Jambrišakovo vrelo” and get to know the ponds and their inhabitants.

How to get there: From Bologna Avenue, turn in Gajnice (right next to the gas station) to the north towards Medvednica into Dubravica Street, continue along the Zelena magistrala to the end and park there.
