Nature guards

A unit of rangers is in charge of surveillance, inspection and supervision of protected environment and ecological network areas within the Nature Park Medvednica. Since Nature Park Medvednica is a public institution that manages the protected environment, rangers’ duties include the control of people and activities that take place in the Nature park. When rangers find someone in an unlawful activity they have the right and obligation to:

  • check the identity of the person,
  • give warnings and orders,
  • collect data and information,
  • search a person, luggage, means of transport or vessel,
  • temporarily restrict movement in a given area,
  • secure a venue for events,
  • charge a penalty, concerning the damage and expenses of the penalty
  • temporarily  capture/remove an unlawfully seized  living or dead  part of the nature or protected environment as well as the means of unlawful activity
  • request/order the recovery to the original state and measures to prevent and eliminate destructive or harmful consequences,
  • impose the administrative measure,
  • file a criminal charge ,
  • initiate misdemeanor proceedings by submitting an indictment.

In addition to the ssurveillance, inspection and supervision activities in the environment protection,  rangers also deal with and realize  conservation and promotion activities, in particular:

  • plan, organize and conduct educational walks,
  • inform and educate  visitors and local population on ecology and preservation topics,
  • care about visitor safety and rescue operations,
  • monitor  plant and animal species, mushroom species and other valuable subjects/matter of protected environment and ecological network areas.
